Moving Forward

IBEW 213 has a number of new ideas that demonstrate our commitment to helping you succeed. In addition to ensuring a supply of highly qualified apprentices, electricians, and foremen; we have developed a Market Recovery Program to respond to ongoing market changes. This program helps our signatory contractors win bids by keeping them competitive.

The main component of the Market Recovery Program is the Electrical Industry Adancement Fund. Signatory contractors use this fund to bid for projects, which are open to union and non-union contractors, using a reduced wage component. Adjusting the journeyperson labour rate makes it impossible for the competitors to predict the union contractors' labour rate, creating a level playing field.

IBEW 213 has been in operation for over 100 years. Our flexibility and willingness to change with the times is what keeps us going. We now have a much more active organizing program, not only in traditional electrical work, but in many other areas of the electrical industry as well. We continue to engage in government lobbying to ensure decision-makers are aware of the needs and concerns of our signatory contractors and workers. We always look for ways to move forward in everyone's interests.

Ron Fettback, General Superintendent, Western Pacific Enterprises Ltd., says: "We've been a signatory company since 1973. One of the main advantages is having a good quality workforce available on a moment's notice. I can chase large projects or downsize depending on the market. The apprenticeship program allows for flexibility, and the electricians are the best the system has to offer. The union continues to look for ways to help us become competitive and offers new approaches to solving problems in the market. IBEW 213 is very fair to deal with, and we've always been able to resolve any differences."
