Electrical Joint Training Committee appoints new managing director

Phil Davis has been named the new managing director of IBEW Local 213’s Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC).

Davis has worked nearly 20 years in training and workforce development roles in the electrical energy sector and holds a Masters in Business Administration. He is also a certified journeyperson electrician with a Red Seal designation.

“Phil has deep experience as a trainer and a manager. In the two years since he joined the EJTC, he has made his mark on the organization in business and program development and the creation of new partnerships,” EJTC vice-president and Local 213 business manager Adam Van Steinburg said.

“The EJTC has a national and international profile as an innovator and an excellent technical trainer. With Phil Davis at the helm we are well positioned to grow that reputation.”

Davis, who assumed the position Jan. 22, will succeed Andy Cleven, the training director at the EJTC since 2004. Cleven will remain as training director emeritus until his retirement, scheduled for June 29.

“The board would like to thank Andy for his leadership over many years,” said EJTC president Graham Trafford. “He has been instrumental in developing the industry-leading programs now being delivered to the ECA/IBEW 213 workforce. He played an essential role in the growth of our Entry Level Trades Training Program, the development of the ‘Mentorship Matters’ program, the construction of the new Green Skills Campus, and the selection and training of our outstanding staff team.”

“Andy has also been active at the national level, as an advisor to federal agencies on trades standards in the electrical sector, and in developing program standards for training in emerging technologies such as electric vehicle infrastructure and photovoltaic solar,” Trafford added.
