Most people who join a union join because they want better wages and more job security. IBEW 213 has never lost sight of this. We have negotiated some of the finest collective agreements in North America. IBEW 213 knows a high-wage economic strategy is what keeps Canada competative. We know a low-wage strategy is simply a race to the bottom, which harms and exploits workers and their families.
However, IBEW 213 recognizes it requires successful employers to sustain good wages and working conditions. IBEW 213 establishes and maintains effective and efficient relationships with its signatory employers.
IBEW 213 also recognizes that unionization is all about industrial democracy. Accordingly, we do whatever it takes to ensure our members are informed and able to fully participate in their union.
IBEW 213 knows that annual general meetings attended by hundreds of members can be intimidating and might leave the issues of smaller groups of members unaddressed. Consequently, we hold six unit meetings each month. At each unit meeting, groups of employees with similar interests discuss and resolve the issues they are closest to. They also discuss and vote on motions from the other units. Within IBEW 213, the members who are the union direct its activities.
