Almost half of Local 213's members are foremen, journeypersons, and apprentices in the electrical construction industry. They joined Local 213 because they wanted better wages, safer working conditions, health and welfare plans, pensions, training, and access to an international network of IBEW employment opportunities. They say the difference between working for an IBEW 213 contractor and a non-union contractor is like the difference between working with professionals and amateurs. On an IBEW 213 job, electricians are fairly compensated, respected, consulted, and safe.
Although it is difficult to obtain accurate non-union statistics, the usual non-union compensation package (hourly wage rate plus benefits) within our geographic jurisdiction is about $10 per hour (or 27%) lower than the Local 213 compensation package. The benefit plans available to IBEW 213 members include pension, extended health, medical, dental, and training plans. Our current hourly wage rates are:
