At FortisBC (FBC), a grievance has been settled by securing a member a full time position as a helper. He loses his apprenticeship with FortisBC. This decision was based on his continued questionable behavior. Another member has been given a two day disciplinary suspension without pay as a result of his electrocution in May. He has also been removed from active duty as a PLT. The company is maintaining his rate and we will be grieving. There are many issues arising out of system control due to their shift schedule that will need to be dealt with. Negotiations resume at the end of October and go for two weeks. The company has committed to provide the Union with a comprehensive counter proposal. FBC has been trying to rush job descriptions through but seem unwilling to alter their position and discuss alternatives. There is an issue with the selection of a millwright in generation as the company appears to have meddled with the process to get their choice. Graham Menzies has stepped down as Pointman citing family issues and frustration. The company is still interested in discussing a relationship foundation. Upper management has been pushing for a joint communication accepting progressive discipline. Discussion is continuing including alternate options. There have been votes at the unit meetings to replace a pension plan trustee who is currently on pre-retirement leave.
Three recently retired members want to remain 213 members as individual contractors. There are ongoing meetings with upper management and HR to try to deal with issues before they become grievances.
