Local Election 2021

Nomination and Election for all elected positions in the Local Union as well as nominations and election for ten (10) delegates and alternates to the 40th Annual IBEW International Convention to be held August 30 – September 3, 2021 in Chicago, IL, USA

NOMINATIONS

Due to Covid 19 meeting restrictions, nominations will be by mail. The nomination form must be completed legibly and signed by both the nominator and the nominee, including the unit both are from. The Election Judge will then confirm the nomination by contacting both the nominee and the nominator.

Nomination forms can also be obtained by contacting the Union Office (Connie) or by downloading and printing using the link below. Each position will require separate nomination form to be completed.

Nominations are open from Thursday, April 1, 2021 to 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021. No nominations will be accepted from the Post Office after 9:00 am on Friday, April 23, 2021.

NOTE: Nomination forms will not be accepted at the Union Office.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS OF THE LOCAL 213 BYLAWS, ARTICLE III:

Section 4(b) - Members of one Unit may nominate members of another Unit for Local Union office. It is not necessary that such nominees be confined to a particular Unit. A member placing the name of another member in nomination for office when the nominated member is not present, shall at the time the nomination is made, give to the Unit Recorder evidence in writing signed by the nominee, that the nominee agrees to be a candidate for a specific Local Union office.
Section 7(b) - No member shall be a candidate for more than one (1) office, except as provided in these bylaws and with approval of the International President. If nominated for more than one office, the member shall immediately declare for which office he/she will be a candidate. However, this shall not apply to offices which have been combined with the approval of the International President.
Section 7(e) - No Apprentice shall be eligible to hold office in the Local Union.

Nomination forms will be available at the Union Office and must be filled in by the nominator and nominee. The completed nomination form, or written equivalent thereof, is to be mailed to: PO Box 10 Stn Main, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 9Z9. Any candidate wishing to submit a brief factual resume of their activities, committee assignments performed, offices held and experience gained for and on behalf of the local union should submit their resume to the Election Judge, not later than 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2021.

ELECTION PROCEDURE

  1. An Election Judge and three Tellers will be appointed by Friday, April 23, 2021 to serve as an Election Board. No candidate for office shall be eligible to serve on this Board.
  2. The eligibility of all candidates shall be ascertained no later than Friday, May 7, 2021.
  3. All voting shall be by mail ballot. Ballots will be mailed out no later than Friday, May 21, 2021.
  4. Ballots will be counted at the Union Hall, 1424 Broadway Street, Port Coquitlam commencing at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
  5. Ballots received later than 10:00 am on Thursday, June 17, 2021 will not be counted.
  6. Each candidate may be present for the count or have an I.B.E.W. member as an observer on his/her behalf.
  7. The Election Board shall certify the results of the ballot in writing, to the Executive Board, no later than Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
  8. Absentee Ballots will be available at the Union Office during regular office hours between May 26-28, 2021.
  9. The officers elected will be sworn in at the June Executive Board and regular unit meetings in July, 2021.
  10. In the event a candidate does not receive a majority of votes cast for the Business Manager/Financial Secretary position, then a run-off election shall be held between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes. All other positions shall be decided for the candidate receiving the most votes.

Should a run-off be necessary, the run-off ballot will be counted Friday, July 16, 2021. Ballots received later than 10:00 am on Friday, July 16, 2021 will not be counted.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

* Only L.U. 213 members who are eligible to participate in the Local 213 Welfare and/or Pension Plans, may stand for nomination or vote for Trustees of these Plans. There are three (3) Trustees (in total) to be elected from the four specified Units.

** Only Local Union 213 members who are eligible to participate in the FortisBC Pension Plan for IBEW and MoveUP Members may stand for nomination or vote for Trustees of this Plan. There is one (1) to be elected from the four specified Units.

All nominees for Unit Committee, excluding Chairman/Executive Board Representative, must be in continuous good standing for the six (6) month period preceding the nomination in April, 2021. All other nominees must be in continuous good standing for the two (2) year period immediately preceding nomination in April, 2021.
