How to Deal with Picket Lines

Show up at the Job Site:

1. If there is a picket line, approach the picket captain, explain who you are (name and member of IBEW Local 213) and what you were sent to do and tell them that you respect their line and will not cross.
Report the line to the shop steward and the company and inform them that you cannot complete the work. Should you lose wages for the day, you may be entitled to receive strike pay if the IBEW Local 213 Strike Fund Trustees allow the claim.
2. If there is no picket line, perform the work.

If the situation is an emergency call where there could be a physical risk to any person using the facility or major damage to that facility, upon arrival at the job site, approach the picket captain and inform them who you are and that there is an emergency that you need to attend to including the reason you need to attend to it. They should be understanding and allow you to pass. If there is a problem, contact the Union immediately and have your representative contact the Union that is involved.

If you're already working inside and a picket line is put up, do not leave - call the Union or your Shop Steward for directions, this could be considered job abandonment and lead to discipline.
