Message from your IBEW 213 President

Dear Sisters & Brothers,

I would just like to say a few words from myself and the Executive Board regarding the health emergency with the COVID-19 virus. In consultation with myself and brother Jim Lofty we have requested and received approval form the international to cancel the monthly unit meeting for April for health and safety. We will be looking at the future monthly meetings on a month-by-month bases relating to the health pandemic.

The Executive Board met in March and we meet again April to ensure the Local’s obligations and business continues during this trying time.

I would remind everyone to abide by the guidelines prescribed by the Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Provincial Minister of Health Adrian Dix – stay home except when it’s absolutely necessary to leave, always maintain a safe distance of two metres (or six feet) from those around you, wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.

We understand that the PHO’s and Health Minister’s guidelines seem contradictory to the essential services designation that’s been handed to many Local 213 members. To the members that are still working, the Executive Board and myself salute you in keeping the province’s lights on and moving along. This includes members working in construction, maintenance, telecommunications, utilities, and home food delivery. Know that we are actively advocating on your behalf, to all levels of government, along with our sisters and brothers at the BC Building Trades and the BC Federation of Labour. You may not see our work, but we trust and hope that you will see its results.

Again, the Executive Board and myself thank you gratefully for your work during this time. Solidarity will get us through this health crisis, and when we beat this crisis IBEW 213 will be here to help our province and county to get back on track. But until then please, sisters and brothers, stay safe.

In solidarity and on behalf of the Executive Board,

James A. Dyball
President
